How to Boost Your Laptop Performance?

How to Boost Your Laptop Performance?

August 26, 2021 By Adam Rainer

The performance of any computer gradually decreases as the time passes. As a human body gets weak over some time a computer’s processing power also weakens over time. All laptops become obsolete over time as the hardware gets weak with usage. Time is a constant that ages not only humans but also your computer. But if good care is taken of your laptop it can last you a pretty good time.

For taking good care of your laptop or any computer a few steps are always necessary to be taken. Today we will be guiding you about those steps that can help boost your laptop’s performance and keeping it up and running for the long term.

1. Delete Unwanted Applications:

A lot of the time, laptop manufacturers pre-install a lot of applications on laptops. Most of these applications are not even used by the average user. They act as bloatware and can clog up your system’s performance. So, to tackle this issue, you have to uninstall all those unwanted applications that are installed on the system and are of no use . Also, a lot of applications are bundled with any particular application you are trying to install, get rid of those separate bundled apps too as they end up taking up your system’s precious memory.

2. Review Your Installed Application:

It can often happen that you might install several applications on your laptop just for testing how versatile your computing system is but later on, you do not even use those extra applications. It can be either due to lack of interest or they might have become of no use to you later on. These applications take up space on your system and can slow down your laptop, so it is better to uninstall them and bid them farewell as you two are no longer any good for each other.

3. Performing Disk Cleanup:

Your system’s storage has GBs of data stored in it. All this data has been saved in your system over a long period of usage and this data takes up a lot of storage space. The more storage is utilized the more chance of system slow down is possible. To steer away from slowdowns, regularly disk cleanups on your laptop as it will make sure any unnecessary files and data are deleted from your system and your system runs smoothly. Disk cleanup also includes deleting all the unwanted internet cache that has been stored while browsing through the world wide web.

4. Frequently Update Your OS, Application, & Drivers:

OS, applications, and drivers make the hardware of your laptop usable. As the software can have some bugs and glitches in it, it can cause computing slowdowns too. Updates also help make your applications more secure as there might be some malicious virus that can compromise your system through an outdated program. So, it is better to keep updating your Operating System, application, and drivers as they will make sure to keep your system running smoothly by constantly killing any possible bugs and errors.

5. Perform Manual Updates:

As told earlier, updates are very important for improving your laptop’s performance but these updates can sometimes become a system slowing process too. Most applications have auto-update enabled by default. It is recommended to manually update your apps and disable the auto-update feature. Due to auto-update several applications can download updates and install them simultaneously that can lead to an overload on the system’s processing power. Manually updating will give you more control and your system can focus on installing a single update at a single time with much more ease.

6. Turn Off All Visual Animations:

Default visual animations do look good at the first glance but can be a system slowing function. Animations require memory processes and a laptop usually does not have a ton of memory to entertain these processes smoothly. To improve the system’s performances all visual animations should be turned off or should be kept to a minimum. Once these changes are done you will feel a visible improvement in your laptop’s performance.

7. Disable Application Auto-Startup:

Majority of the apps automatically startup when a laptop is booted. This can hinder the performance, as more apps are lined to be loaded the more time it will take for the laptop to completely boot. Technically speaking, more apps running in the background will make the system to perform the tasks slower. So, to tackle this disable all unnecessary apps that automatically start up and make sure only those apps are enabled that are needed for your productivity.

8. Increase RAM Size:

RAM Random Access Memory, the memory which loads all the programs and makes them run smoothly. The low size of RAM might also be the reason for a lackluster performing laptop. The more RAM your system will have more smoothly your system will run and multitasking will be much easier. Laptops usually do not come packed with a huge RAM but you can upgrade by adding more RAM to your hardware. Adding more RAM to your laptop will provide visible improvement in your laptop’s performance. However, if your laptop’s architecture does not allow you to replace or add more RAM then you should consider taking the above-mentioned steps.

9. Upgrade to SSD Storage Type:

SSD stands for Solid State Drive. SSD is a much more modern technology for storing data. It has much faster memory reading speeds and is much more optimized than a mechanical hard drive like an HDD. Upgrading to an SSD storage type will surely boost your laptop’s performance. But, same as for RAM some laptops do not allow users to change or upgrade hard drives too, so you might have to settle for some other ways.

10. Get a New One!

This option is for those who are either too lazy to perform all the performance-boosting steps or are simply tired of trying all possible solutions to boost their laptop’s performance. In most of the cases, it is better to upgrade your laptop with better specs or move to a new one than your old goofy laptop. As time progresses, hardware becomes outdated and software also becomes less optimized for outdated hardware. So, it is better to upgrade than compromising on the mediocre performance of your once great old laptop.
